AUGUSTA – The trucking industry is the backbone of Maine’s economy, delivering essential goods to communities across the state. Yet, with an estimated shortage of 1,100 drivers statewide, the future of this critical industry faces significant challenges. In response, the Maine Motor Transport Association’s “Go Your Way” workforce development campaign has launched a unique initiative to spark interest in trucking careers and highlight the industry’s essential role.
Through a newly developed online platform, companies can design custom trailer wraps that carry the “Go. Your Way.” message while aligning with their individual brand. These mobile billboards are designed to engage the public, raise awareness, and attract new talent into the trucking industry.
Participating companies can:
- Select images for a custom trailer wrap design using a simple web-based tool;
- Collaborate with the MMTA team to refine designs for maximum impact;
- Receive wrap installation recommendations to complete the process.
While the design process is free, companies are responsible for coordinating and covering the cost of installation. MMTA provides support to streamline the process.
RF Chamberland Inc. of St. Agatha was the first company to take part in the campaign’s trailer wrap initiative, beginning the design process early and setting the stage for others to follow. Sibley Transportation of Bangor quickly joined the effort, and both companies proudly unveiled their newly wrapped trailers at MMTA’s Championship Saturday event. These early adopters have set the tone for what MMTA hopes will be a widespread show of support from the industry.
With 84.4% of Maine communities relying exclusively on trucks for their goods, the “Go Your Way” campaign helps reinforce the industry’s vital importance across the state—while also putting a public face on the people and companies who keep Maine moving.
The trucking industry in Maine supports over 34,000 jobs, contributes $1.8 billion in wages, and offers competitive salaries—averaging over $53,000, with OTR drivers averaging close to $70,000.
