rship and Board meetings, a “NextGen” Subcommittee was formed to identify reasons that members (especially those under 40) are reticent to get involved; identify ways the MMTA can encourage participation with a younger demographic; and to develop solutions that can positively impact future MMTA engagement.
One of the ideas developed by this subcommittee is to schedule casual social events at local breweries for MMTA members (and non-members) to get together for casual conversation with trucking counterparts and an opportunity to network with peers in the same industry.
We settled on two gatherings to encourage both northern and southern participation. The southern event will be in Freeport at the Maine Beer Company (525 US Route 1, Freeport) on Thursday, June 15th and the northern event will be at the Orono Brewing Company (61 Margin St, Orono) on Thursday, June 22nd. Both events will run from 2pm-4pm… but attendees are welcome to stick around and kick back for as long as they like.
There will be no agenda and there will be no speakers in an effort to maintain the informality of the get-togethers. Both events are free to attend with a cash bar and no registration is required. Just come by for a casual meetup with trucking friends and please consider bringing another trucking professional in your office from HR, Safety, Maintenance or Dispatch. Everyone is welcome to join us!
