The John Austin Trucking Foundation is pleased to announce that Erik Federowski of South Portland has been awarded a $2,000 grant to support his pursuit of a career in Maine’s trucking industry.
After more than two decades working in customer service, management, and operations roles, Federowski is making a career change to pursue a long-standing interest in professional driving. He recently completed the CDL-A Truck Driver Training Program at Northeast Technical Institute (NTI), for training toward earning his Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Federowski’s professional background includes leadership positions with several Maine employers, where he supervised teams, managed operations, and developed employees. While successful in the corporate environment, he is now seeking a more hands-on career that offers greater independence and a direct connection to Maine’s transportation industry.
Recommendation letters submitted on his behalf highlighted his strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to personal growth. Supporters described him as responsible, safety-conscious, and eager to learn, noting his enthusiasm for trucking and his appreciation for the important role professional drivers play in keeping Maine’s economy moving. They also emphasized his maturity, self-sufficiency, and positive attitude as qualities that will serve him well as he enters the profession.
Federowski noted that the cost of CDL training can be a significant barrier for individuals pursuing a new career path. The John Austin Trucking Foundation award will help offset those expenses enters the trucking workforce.
The John Austin Trucking Foundation is proud to support individuals like Erik who are investing in their future while helping strengthen Maine’s trucking workforce. We wish him continued success as he begins this exciting new chapter in his professional career.
