Hearing Scheduled for Maine to Adopt California Advanced Clean Trucks Rule

As previously reported, The Conservation Law Foundation (CLF), Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM), and Sierra Club have petitioned the Maine Board of Environmental Protection (BEP) to adopt the California Advanced Clean Trucks Rule.  This requires BEP to initiate the rulemaking process which has been set accordingly:

July 20, 2023 – CA ACT/ACC Briefing for BEP Board Members at 9am

  • There will be no opportunity for input at this briefing, but it will give insight as to the department’s position on this issue and may shine a light on things we will need to include in our collective written comments.
  • The agenda is HERE and the Zoom link is HERE.  You can also listen by phone by calling 1-646-876-9923 and entering Webinar ID: 850 6572 1226.
  • This briefing will be held at the Augusta Civic Center.

August 17, 2023 – BEP Public Hearing (Augusta & Zoom) typically starting at 9am and typically held at the Civic Center

  • We need as many people as possible to fill the room and would love to have folks speak about the impact adoption would have on their businesses and/or industry.

August 28,2023 – Written Comment Deadline

  • If you have not already submitted comments but wish to do so, this is your last opportunity for submission.

MMTA has been heavily involved in the Mainers for Smart Energy Coalition – a group that is growing by the day.  Which is to say that other industry groups and businesses realize the detrimental impact of Maine adopting these California rules would have and it isn’t just the trucking industry going at it alone.  The MFSE Coalition will be submitting comments to the BEP that will augment the comments MMTA will be submitting – both at the hearing and in writing.

We want to thank MMTA members who have already been engaged on this issue and encourage everyone to reach out to us to get involved.
