MMTA Note:
The following press release has been provided by the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit (Troop K) regarding a new anonymous tip system and mobile app that is supported by MMTA. The system provides another avenue for members of the trucking industry and the motoring public to share information about commercial vehicle safety concerns and potential violations with Troop K.
As with any anonymous reporting system, there is some potential for misuse or misunderstanding. However, MMTA believes the opportunity to use this technology as an additional tool to promote highway safety is important for our members and the motoring public to consider.
We also have confidence in the strong partnership that Maine’s trucking industry has built with the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit. That relationship is based on a shared commitment to highway safety, and MMTA has offered its assistance as Troop K puts this system into operation. We believe that working together, with an emphasis on responsible use of the system and a focus on legitimate safety concerns, can help make a positive difference on Maine’s highways.

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit (Troop K) has launched a new anonymous tip system and mobile app, giving members of the public and the commercial transportation industry an easy and confidential way to share information about commercial vehicle safety and potential violations on Maine roadways.
The new system, powered by tip411, allows users to submit anonymous tips directly to the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit by text message or through a free mobile app available for iPhone and Android devices.
The Commercial Vehicle Unit works statewide to help ensure commercial vehicles operating on Maine highways comply with state size and weight laws and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Through inspections, proactive patrols, enforcement efforts, safety audits, crash investigations, and industry outreach, the unit works to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving commercial motor vehicles.
The new tip411 system provides another tool to support that mission by making it easier for truck drivers, transportation industry employees, motorists, and other members of the public to share information with the unit.
We’re proud to partner with the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit to provide an easy and completely anonymous way for people to share information that can help Troopers identify safety concerns, address violations, and ultimately make Maine’s highways safer for everyone,” said Terry Halsch, President of tip411.
