ARE YOU PREPARED FOR CSA 2010?

WHAT IS CSA 2010?

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), together with state partners and industry continue to work to further reduce commercial vehicle (CMV) crashes, fatalities, and injuries on our Nation’s highways.

Comprehensive Safety Analysis (CSA 2010) is a new national safety initiative to more effectively identify and quickly intervene with large truck and bus drivers and carriers who are not complying with safety rules. With new tools to identify and correct unsafe carrier/driver behaviors that lead to crashes, CSA 2010 is designed to be a more effective and efficient means of regulating and enforcing safe driving. CSA 2010 replaces SafeStat with a new Safety Measurement System (SMS), which displays carrier safety performance information the way SafeStat does today, but with significant improvements.

WHAT DOES CSA 2010 MEAN TO YOU?

CSA 2010 replaces SafeStat with a new Safety Measurement System (SMS) that measures the previous two years of roadside violations and crash data. With SMS, every inspection counts, not just out-of-service violations, and both driver and carrier safety performance are monitored.

WHEN WILL CSA 2010 BE IMPLEMENTED IN MAINE?

CSA 2010 is currently being tested in nine states. This summer, the program launches, replacing the current SafeStat system with the more comprehensive Safety Measurement System (SMS).
